Larimar is only found in the Dominican Republic and it was first found in 1916 but the country denied a request to mine for it. It wasn’t officially discovered till 1974 on a beach where the man named the stone after his young daughter, Larissa, and the Spanish word for sea (mar). Pieces of Larimar had washed up on the beach and an upstream investigation revealed what is known today as the Los Chupaderos Mine! This piece comes directly from the mine and has not been cut in any way.
